Part Three: Learning from the Indigenous
“We may lose our power by giving it away, but the guardians prevent anyone from taking it from us. Naturally you are fearful because you are breaking away from the majority’s belief system in a radical way.” Standing Eagle, an Apache Medicine man, awakens my inner muse. It results in an outpouring of creativity. In a dream my inner grizzly appears, eats my heart and gives me a child’s heart. Standing Eagle emphasizes innocence. Hidden Wolf, a hereditary chief and Paiute medicine man crosses my path in Houston. His teachings focus on not judging and allowing things to happen. It becomes a time of facing my own shadow. Now I too can say “don’t awaken the Hidden Wolf in me.” More medicine people follow.
